Gracefully intertwined, thousands of copper sunflowers and lotuses coexist for eternity in Xu Jiang’s garden installation. Jiang is only one of the artists participating in the China Pavilion.
Conceived as a statement of acceptance and coexistence, Jiang uses a very simple concept - mix two well known and beloved plants that could never grow naturally in the same place - making the point apparent. Sunflowers need well-drained soil, while lotuses are aquatic plants. Yet in this installation, the two live together in symbolic harmony.
Strong message. Simple concept. Simply beautiful.
